This is one of the most common questions we hear — and it's a great one. While both psychiatrists and therapists are trained to support mental health, there are important differences in how they help.
A therapist (such as a licensed counselor, social worker, or psychologist) provides talk therapy — helping you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through ongoing conversation and evidence-based techniques.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing mental health conditions and, when appropriate, prescribing and managing medication as part of a treatment plan. Dr. Kiddoe also provides therapy, which means he can offer both — a level of integrated care that is especially valuable for complex or co-occurring conditions.
Many clients benefit from working with both, and Dr. Kiddoe is happy to collaborate with your existing care team. -
Yes. Dr. Kiddoe is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, which means he is specially trained to support mental health across all stages of life — from young children through adulthood.
For younger patients, Dr. Kiddoe creates a safe, welcoming environment where they feel comfortable and heard. He also works closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that families feel informed and supported throughout the process.
Common reasons families seek psychiatric care for children and teens include ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral challenges, and school-related difficulties — though we welcome any concern, big or small. -
Reaching out for a psychiatric evaluation is a sign of strength, not weakness — and it doesn't mean something is "seriously wrong." Many people seek an evaluation simply because they want to better understand what they or their child are experiencing.
You might consider a psychiatric evaluation if you or your child are experiencing:
Persistent sadness, worry, or mood changes that interfere with daily life
Difficulty focusing, sitting still, or completing tasks at school or work
Sleep problems, appetite changes, or unexplained physical symptoms
Behavioral changes that seem out of character or are escalating
A traumatic experience that continues to affect everyday functioning
A previous diagnosis you'd like a second opinion or fresh perspective on
If you're unsure whether an evaluation is the right next step, we encourage you to reach out. We're happy to talk it through with you.

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Dr. Kiddoe will take time to understand your current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, family history, relationships, daily functioning, previous treatment, and goals. After the evaluation, you will discuss diagnostic impressions and personalized treatment recommendations.

Success StoriesWhat our clients have to say about working with us
This is a fantastic way to invest in your marriage. Kaara and Jared are a wonderful couple who okay off of each other so well. They’re honest and funny and normalize couples counseling and therapy. They make it fun! I left feeling enthusiastic and reenergized about being married. My main takeaway is to invest in your marriage.
— A. Titus
Expressing how I feel to my wife is something that I didn't really know how to do.. I tend to keep those thoughts caged up.. I realize now how that has affected how we communicate with each other.. I've also realized that I don't always have to have the answers.. Sometimes listening is enough.. This removes lots of unnecessary pressure and allows me to be more present during our conversations.
— B. Davis
In all the marriage counseling I have been to in over the last 14 years, everything in these sessions were a first for me. My mind was completely blown! Why isn’t every counselor teaching this?! I left with real and practical tools that I can use that help me grow as an individual and my marriage. This is literally the hope that I have been looking for for years!!!
— J. John
